Research

Three connected research areas focused on how local structure in solid materials controls chemical reactivity.

Our work falls into the three areas below, and most projects draw on more than one. To study how a catalyst operates, for example, we first have to understand the local structure of the catalyst and its environment, as well as how operating conditions alter them. Single measurements and individual characterization techniques cannot generate sufficient data, so developing broader strategies to analyze a system becomes an integral part of each project.
